Holidays

I’m really looking forward to Thanksgiving tomorrow and the holiday season. My husband and I are staying local for Thanksgiving and we will kick off the day with a hometown Turkey Bowl. It’ll be a great day and this season will be even more special seeing it through our son’s eyes. I can’t wait to put up our Christmas Tree and have him see the sparkly lights and watch him enjoy unwrapping his gifts more than the gift itself.

I’ve said before that joy and grief can be felt simultaneously and it is so true.

This time of year I especially wish I could call my mom. I want to ask why my lasagna is too runny and if I do or do not bread the pork chops before cooking them. Do Whole Foods or Trader Joes have better Christmas wreaths - and how do I actually hang them outside our dormer windows?

She can no longer answer my questions but I am sure to share with my mom. I share that I made her pork chops and I walk her through my makeshift recipe. I’ll point to the wreaths in the window. I tell her how much I love her. I’ll let her know how thankful I am this Thanksgiving.
